The owner stated there was another site in town proper (town of Morgan Hill) near a bar some years ago, but it is closed. Happy rockhounding every one.Ģ4th Nov 2008 07:50 UTC Donald Kasper I had the chance to dig at the only open Morgan Hill ranch site this past summer. May the Lord Jesus bless all with good findes. I had good luck diging in the dirt and debree and found manny good peaces to polish. Or you can try your luck digging in the debree on the ground looking for left over peaces with a rock hammer or other pointed tool. Heavy duty equipment is what you need if you want to try your luck on the big bolder : huge weges and slege hammer havyer than 8 pounds. Be carefull, if the polece finde you they will steal your loot and maby even fine you is what I heard from a local resident. I think many poeple know of this spot befor it was baried. Then the city baried it hoping on one would find it. The story is that this used to be a mine. The jasper is to the right side of the fence. You will see a fence at the top when you look up. Walk down paved path till you see a worn steep slope to your left. Keep going till you are passing over Lagas Creek. From 152 take Watsonvill Road all the way to the Monteray Hyway. Oak Creek Park, originaly Silvera Park, is your final destination. I want to give every one a chance to have some of that rock before that person/s take every thing. Some body took it during the past 9 or so days. The huge bolder with red poppys on a black back round is now gone. Well some body is rearly wacking the heck out of the jasper I found. Happy rockhounding every one.ģrd Oct 2008 23:37 UTC Melinda POOPY JASPER LOCATION REVEALED ! ! I will keep having fun looking for other spots. There is just to much stuff being sold on the internet for there not to be more publick hunting places. I think there are a lot more publick hunting places out there to that are being kept a secrit. wants its owne personal mine it should go buy one on some private land some ware (I am sure you, Gov., Is rich anuff to do so compared to us much lower income folks). It is totally unfair to rockhounds to fine them. If this was for real what in the world is rong with the Morgon Hill Government? Stuff on publick land is owned by all persons not just the Gov. My freind had herd that a little girl was fined $400 dollors just because she had a cupple of rocks in her pocket. So maby all the rumers of nasty penaltys are just rumers to scare Poppy Jasper hunters away from town. If a cop had seen our car packed at the spot they did not bother to come investigating to finde my freind and I and fine us. There was a fence that was in bad shape but the Jasper was out side the fence. There were no sines or any clame markers to indicate it was against the law to dig there. Somebody els had also been digging at the sight. It is on publick land not on private land. I can not say ware it is, but some time in the futuer I will tell the rock club ware it is. After that I did a lot of reserch that led me to the spot. 2006 wondering how to find the Poppy Jasper. It may be that putting it out on Ebay might be the best way to max out the dollar potential of you material.Ģ4th Sep 2008 00:38 UTC Melinda I finaly found the wonderfull stone! I did an erlyer post Aug. CheckĮbay and see if anyone is offering Morgan Hill stuff and what it has been selling for. If the material you have is not polished I would suggest that before offering it for sale that you give it a coat of clear lacquer to bring out the color. I don't know if he was or will be successful in selling it at those prices or not. Some guy called me the other day who had apparently gotten hold of an old horde of Morgan Hill jasper and he was asking $20 to $30 a pound for his material and it was more or less in rough chunks. The new material from Madagascar sells wholesale in Tucson for about $40 per kg for polished thin slabs although it can me more or less depending on the quality. Morgan hill poppy jasper is really a very nice jasper and was considered perhaps the best of its type until the new "ocean jasper" from Madagascar put in its appearance a few years back.
